Objectives:
- Describe the ‘progression of fear’ and how to prevent fear from becoming an anxiety disorder in autistic children
- Describe the biological, genetic, familial, and psychological sources of anxiety
- Define and describe how to promote resilience for autistic children including
- biopsychosocial considerations
- List the 7 main sources of anxiety for children with autism
- Describe in detail the ‘developmental approach’ to helping children on the spectrum
- manage fears and anxieties
- Describe how to use anxiety to help the autistic child improve in their functional emotional development
- List several ‘transition tricks’ to help children with autism decrease anxiety during transitions.
Dr. Rick Solomon is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician with over 25 years of experience working with children, and their families, who have behavioral and developmental conditions. Dr. Solomon has cared for many autistic children and their families regarding their anxiety and support needs.
