SUMMARY:Practical Strategies for Autism and Picky Eating
DESCRIPTION:Practical Strategies for Autism and Picky Eating \nResearch shows that children with autism spectrum disorders are 5 times more likely to have eating issues than typical children. They often want to ‘keep the world the same’ and their sensory and motor (mastication) issues may preclude them from eating foods that offend their tastes\, tolerance of textures\, and/or sense of smell\, limiting their diets even further. \nIn this free webinar\, Dr. Rick reviews the research\, summarizes what experts recommend for expanding the diets of children with autism\, and provides guidelines that will help every parent make mealtimes more enjoyable and help the child with autism expand the range of foods they will eat. \nObjectives: \n\nState the most important single rule for feeding any child including the child with autism\nDescribe sensory/motor considerations in feeding the child with autism\nDescribe how many exposures it takes to for a child with autism to adopt a new food\nExplain how parental culture and the emotional reactions can impact the autistic child’s eating behaviors\nDescribe various ways to promote better eating habits of children with autism\n\nDr. Rick Solomon is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician with over 25 years of experience working with children\, and their families\, who have behavioral and developmental conditions. Dr. Solomon has cared for many autistic children and their families regarding their ‘picky eating’. \nYour registration includes: \n\nAccess to a one-hour recorded webinar hosted by Richard Solomon\, MD (access provided until July 10th\, 2026)\nAccess to a one-hour Masterclass on June 25th 12pm-1pm EST with Richard Solomon\, MD; founder and medical director of The PLAY Project. Masterclass will be livestreamed over Zoom\nAdditional registration is required for the Masterclass.
