SUMMARY:2-Day Teaching PLAY Event hosted by The Childhood League Center
DESCRIPTION:Two-Day Virtual Teaching PLAY with Katie Scott \nLearn more about evidence based Teaching PLAY: \nTeaching PLAY\, (TP) is a school-based version of The PLAY Project’s Autism Early Intervention model (PLAY)\, a parent-implemented intervention program for young children on the autism spectrum. This is the first in person PLAY Project workshop since 2019 hosted by The Childhood League Center.   \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!\n\n\n\nAfter this workshop participants will be able to: \nIn Teaching PLAY\, the 7 Circles of The PLAY Project are adapted to the school setting. Instead of teaching parents\, certified Teaching PLAY Consultants (TPC) train teachers and school staff to focus on engagement and social interaction with students on the autism spectrum.  \nWithout disrupting classroom routines\, TP is designed to be practical and efficient in teaching pre-school and kindergarten school staff to playfully engage children ASD in order to address the social challenges of these students that hinder true integration into the inclusive classroom. In Teaching PLAY\, we believe that\, for children with ASD\, “Engagement leads to educational readiness.” \n There are 3 Teaching PLAY training options: \n1.) Teaching PLAY: A Short Course\, for school personnel interested in learning the basics. \n2.) Teaching PLAY: Teacher Certification\, an extended study in PLAY Project methods for the classroom. \n 3.) Teaching PLAY for Schools. In this program\, PLAY Consultants\, specially trained in TP\, will consult with the schools to implement the highest standard TP program in the school setting. \n The ‘Teaching PLAY for Schools’ program has been piloted in dozens of schools with very positive results. TPCs make 6 visits to the classroom\, videotape interactions\, and coach school personnel in Teaching PLAY principles\, methods\, techniques\, and activities.  IEP goals that promote the child’s functional development are recommended. Parent involvement is highly recommended. \n Richard Solomon MD\, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician\, is the medical director and founder of The PLAY Project and Teaching PLAY programs. \n\nAbout our Teaching PLAY Trainer\nKatie Scott MS\, LISW\nKatie Scott lives in Columbus\, Ohio and works at West Central Ohio Network as a PLAY and Teaching PLAY Consultant.  Katie is a PLAY Project supervisor\, Teaching PLAY Mentor and Master Trainer. She has a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of Dayton\, Master of Child Development from the Erikson Institute and an MSW from Loyola University of Chicago. She is an early intervention specialist and a clinical social worker. Katie’s experience in working with children has included Autism Spectrum Disorder\, sensory-processing issues\, medical issues\, ADHD\, Oppositional Defiant Disorder\, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder\, genetic disorders and developmental delays. Over the past few years\, Katie has been invested in expanding Teaching PLAY and training as many educators as possible. She has been in over 100 classrooms coaching interdisciplinary teams and has provided several Teaching PLAY workshops. Outside of work\, Katie enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband\, Kevin\, and children\, Theo and Lucy. \n\nTeaching PLAY is a classroom application of The PLAY Project that focuses on a child’s functional development and interaction so children with autism will be more successful in school both socially and academically.\n\n\n\nSee sample agenda\n\n\n\nPlease note this is an event offered by The Childhood League Center and their Continuing Education Units (CEUs) may differ from what is offered directly from The PLAY Project. \nAshland University credits\, OCCRRA\, OPTA and DODD CEUs for the 2-Day Intensive Workshop Only.

SUMMARY:Survival of the Tastiest Free Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Survival of the Tastiest Masterclass with Dr. Rick \nResearch shows that children with autism spectrum disorders are 5 times more likely to have eating issues than typical children. They often want to ‘keep the world the same’ and their sensory and motor (mastication) issues may preclude them from eating foods that offend their tastes\, tolerance of textures\, and/or sense of smell\, limiting their diets even further. \nIn this free webinar\, Dr. Rick reviews the research\, summarizes what experts recommend for expanding the diets of children with autism\, and provides guidelines that will help every parent make mealtimes more enjoyable and help the child with autism expand the range of foods they will eat. \nObjectives: \n\nState the most important single rule for feeding any child including the child with autism\nDescribe sensory/motor considerations in feeding the child with autism\nDescribe how many exposures it takes to for a child with autism to adopt a new food\nExplain how parental culture and the emotional reactions can impact the autistic child’s eating behaviors\nDescribe various ways to promote better eating habits of children with autism\n\nDr. Rick Solomon is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician with over 25 years of experience working with children\, and their families\, who have behavioral and developmental conditions. Dr. Solomon has cared for many autistic children and their families regarding their ‘picky eating’. \nYour registration includes: \n\nAccess to a one-hour recorded webinar hosted by Richard Solomon\, MD (access provided until April 4th\, 2024)\nAccess to a one-hour MasterClass on March 28th 12pm-1pm EST with Richard Solomon\, MD; founder and medical director of The PLAY Project. MasterClass will be livestreamed over Zoom\nAdditional registration is required for the MasterClass. Details provided.\n\nAttendees will be sent instructions via email on how to access the webinar\, MasterClass and any additional resources following registration. \nContact info@playproject.org for more information. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Register Here

SUMMARY:Webinar | Celebrating Neurodiversity: Joyous Ways to Thrive During the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:Webinar | Celebrating Neurodiversity: Joyous Ways to Thrive During the Holidays \nHo\, ho\, ho. Oh No! I know it sounds ‘Scrooge-like’ to say\, but if you want the holidays to be fun and wonderful and easy\, don’t expect the holidays to be fun and wonderful and easy! Neurodivergent children are neurologically wired to “keep the world the same\,” so the holiday season with all of its changes and transitions can be a challenge for the children and their families. When you realize what our children must deal with during the holidays—change of schedules (no school!); change of daily routines; change of locations (going to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving or a friend’s for Christmas); loss of favorite activities; noisy parties with lots of new people; lots of excitement (new toys for Christmas!); and\, worst of all\, long car rides—it’s no wonder why they behave poorly and why so many parents of children with autism dread the holidays! In this webinar\, ‘Dr. Rick’ Solomon\, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician\, with over 25 years’ experience\, will use humor and case studies to demonstrate several joyous ways to help parents deal with common holiday challenges so their children will have fun and thrive during the holidays. \nIn this webinar participants will learn: \n\n5 Rules for holiday fun\nHow to ‘plan for the worst’\nDr. Rick’s 20 Transition Tricks to help your child get through most transitions\nHow to arrange the holiday environments by keeping the ‘micro-environment’ (the inside world) familiar and rewarding even when the ‘macro-environment (the outside world) is chaotic\, noisy\, and/or confusing.\nThe ‘Good\, Bad\, and Ugly’ positive parenting approach to help children behave even during the holidays\n\nContact info@playproject.org for more information. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Register Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom Session\nDecember 13th\, 2023 | 12pm – 1pm ET\n_____
