The P.L.A.Y Project’s Autism Intervention Program

Helping young children with autism reach their full potential through PLAY

Welcome to The PLAY Project

The P.L.A.Y. ( Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters) Project is a parent implemented, intensive early intervention program for young children with autism that is evidence-based.

Far too many children with autism are waiting for services.
Early intervention can make a profound difference in the life course of these children because their brains are developing at an incredible rate before the age of 5.

Children, including children with autism, learn best through play in the natural environment of the home. The secret is knowing how to engage the child in a playful way that promotes his or her development.

The PLAY Project is delivered by parents who have been trained by PLAY Project Consultants, using their relationship and knowledge of their child to promote engagement.

It is cost effective, easily implemented, and can serve large numbers of families efficiently.

“When you do what the child loves the child will love being with you.”

– Dr. Rick Solomon

– Research shows that families can learn PLAY Project principles, methods, techniques and activities to help their child’s development.

– Parents receive coaching and education from a trained and certified PLAY Project Consultant so they can deliver the intervention themselves.

– Challenges with social interaction is at the core of autism. When parents play in a fun way throughout the day with their child who has autism, research shows that the child becomes more social which helps their child develop.

Dr. Solomon’s book Autism: The Potential Within is four books in one. The first ‘book’ (in Section 1) answers the question: ‘What can parents do to help their child once their child is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder?’ The second ‘book’ (Section 2) gives a thorough overview of the evidence-based PLAY Project program that coaches parents on fun ways to engage their hard to engage children. The third ‘book’ (Section 3) is a practical guide to common behavioral problems of children with ASD including tantrums, difficulty with transitions, misbehavior in public, sibling rivalry, and more. Finally, the book is the story of Jacob Grant and his family who make a series of office visits with Dr. Solomon. Each chapter is a visit with practical guidance and lists of resources for families. Parent and professionals have found that Autism: The Potential Within is a practical resource and guide for the common problems that families face in helping their child with ASD reach his or her full potential. Here are some book reviews from parents and professionals.
