The Ann Arbor Center for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics is excited to announce that Dr. Bowers is now offering Cogmed Working Memory Training.
Working Memory is the ability to keep information in your mind for a brief period of time, manipulate it, and use it in your thinking. Working memory is an essential brain/thinking function necessary for a wide-range of tasks related to attention and focus. Working memory is considered to be crucial as a building block of learning in academic, work, and social situations.
Cogmed is an effective, safe, non-pharmacological and cost-effective approach to address attention difficulties. Cogmed Working Memory Training exercises and improves your working memory. Leading researchers state that the human brain is more plastic than previously believed and research has shown that when you train your working memory, activity in those parts of the brain that are associated with working memory increases (Nature Neuroscience, 2004). Dr. Bowers will provide you with five weeks of intensive Working Memory Training, plus an additional 100 shorter training sessions to continue to build upon your cognitive gains.
Dr. Bowers will also assess whether the program is a good fit for you before starting, will complete pre- and post-test assessments to determine progress, will provide encouragement, problem-solving, and analysis of progress on a weekly basis during the 5-week training, and will provide follow-up booster sessions after completion of training to review gains.
You will also get convenience. The training takes place on your remote computer (at home or in school) and consultation with Dr. Bowers is via phone so you don’t have to make a trip to the office.
